About
An virtual AR gallery to empower the local artists in Pittsburgh, along with an engaging viewer experience
Role
Overview
- Location
We aim to establish the gallery in the Pop District, specifically centered at the Andy Warhol Museum, aligning with the client's proposal. This location, known for its artistic significance, serves as a natural hub for art
However, the Andy Warhol Museum imposes charges on the audience, creating a financial barrier for both attendees and artists. This poses a challenge, particularly for marginalized artists who may face difficulty accessing the public
- Stakeholders
In the USA, over 5 million artists face a scarcity of exhibition spaces, limiting their opportunities. Despite a large audience, the available venues are restricted.
In response, we aspire to develop a user-friendly tool that transcends realities, making art more accessible to the public. This initiative seeks to overcome barriers and provide a platform for artists to showcase their work without financial constraints
How might we help artists (especially marginalized) and audience easily access to each other?
Research
- Research Goals
(a )Understand the format and platform of existing virtual galleries
- Competitor Analysis
Among all the competitors we found, most are based on AR/ VR/ webGL. The AR ones are the most achievable and immersive.
User Research
We managed to recruit three local marginalized artists to participate in the research activity.
- Findings
(a) Artists are looking for platforms to let them access the audience easier, and connect with the local community
(b) It's challenging to build fun interactions with the audience, and strengthen the connection between artworks
(c) AR is the most accessible and immersive technology for building arts among all the others
Ideate
